IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE
While we were walking, a friend remarked, “To most people, Jesus is just too good to be true”.
He continued talking, but, my mind stood still. “JESUS is too good to be true?”, I thought. “What in the world kind of statement is that and why has it snared my mind?“, I wondered.
“STOP!”, I told my friend. “Stop talking and repeat what you just said”, I said.
“What?”, He asked, looking surprised and inquisitive, “Which part?”, he asked.
“The part about Jesus being too good to be true. What did you mean by that?” I pressed.
“Well, think about it. Think about all the Jesus has done. All the good He has done.” My friend said.
“Wow”, I mused aloud. “How am I supposed to take that?” The more I thought about it, it’s true: JESUS IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE – BUT HE IS TRUE!
“TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE”
Even Jesus said it, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” John 14:6
To the unsaved person, “Yeah, well, they say if a thing is too good to be true, then it isn’t”
To a follower of Christ, “Yes! He is too good to be True, but He is True!”
Skepticism? Hyperbole? Fact?
Listen to what some of Jesus contemporaries, friends and family said about Him:
When His own people heard of this, they went out to take custody of Him; for they were saying, “He has lost His senses.” Mark 3:21
Others were saying, “These are not the sayings of one demon-possessed. A demon cannot open the eyes of the blind, can he?” John 10:21
13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Matthew 16:13-15
WHO DO YOU SAY HE IS?
Seriously? Can you prove it?
Think about it.
“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:1-2
