CALL TO ARMS – PART 2

DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING

– A call to His Service –

Has “Discipleship Training” in your church has been reduced to mini-sermons on Wednesday evenings, bible studies about discipleship and informative or emotional videos by popular bible teachers about everything else?

1. You can tell if your Church is training disciples to make disciples: Are you and others in your church telling others the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus, on a regular basis? Or, do you leave it to the “professionals” (aka, “hirelings”)?

2. Are you personally making disciples – yourself?

The Bible says that true disciples, Jesus’ disciples, make other disciples. But it is clear that most Christians are not making disciples.

We attend church and some are learning about the Bible and are clamoring, ‘Feed Me More’! But, never do what they learn. It seems we are “always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 2 Timothy 3:7

The results are in

Now it is time. The time has arrived when the few, which I will refer to as the ‘remnant’, begin training for spiritual combat as disciples of Jesus. That day has arrived. His return is near.

You won’t become a disciple by attending a college bible class or a seminary. You become a disciple of Jesus on your knees in prayer, through the Bible and through practicing the things Jesus commanded.

Before we start, learn about “Binding & Loosing”, and practice it…

NOTE: Matthew 6:18 “Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”

LEARN: The expressions “bind” and “loose” were common to Jewish legal phraseology meaning to declare something forbidden or to declare it allowed.

The concept of “binding and loosing” is taught in the Bible in Matthew 16:19: “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

In this verse, Jesus is speaking directly to the apostle Peter and indirectly to the other apostles, (and subsequently, to future disciples). Jesus’ words meant that Peter (and subsequently, future disciples) would have the right to enter the kingdom himself, that he would have general authority symbolized by the possession of the keys, and that preaching the gospel would be the means of opening the kingdom of heaven to all believers and shutting it against unbelievers.

The book of Acts shows us this process at work. By his sermon on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:14-40), Peter opened the door of the kingdom for the first time.

This is IMPORTANT as we see what Jesus says about the Authority of the Kingdom and who may enter and what they are commanded to do in His Name.

Now, let’s begin by gaining understanding of Jesus instructions so we can GO, DO and BE.

READ, LEARN & UNDERSTAND JESUS’ DIRECTIVES TO HIS DISCIPLES IN

MATTHEW 4

17 From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

18 ¶ Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

19 And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.

21 Going on from there He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them.

22 Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

23 ¶ Jesus was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people.

1. READ & STUDY: “From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

LEARN: The word “Preach” used here is a word of formality, gravity and an authority which must be listened to and obeyed; something which has been done, first in the Spiritual to be manifest in the natural. It is not a general statement nor is it a request. It is a prophetic command.

The word “began” tells us that Jesus time had come to rule and reign over the physical and spiritual world. This is vitally important, as you will see a little later. <—REMEMBER THIS.

“Repentance” signifies regret which amounts solely to remorse. In a Christian sense, “repentance” is a reversal of moral purpose, a change of attitude and behavior to the teaching of model of Jesus.

“Repentance” is a necessary step for Salvation, refers to an emotional change, and to a change of choice and has reference to particulars for ones entire life.

UNDERSTAND:began – #757 ἄρχω archo ar’-kho AV-rule over 1, reign over 1; 2

GO TO ACTION & BE HIS DISCIPLE – DO IT NOW

You Begin – Now, today, start:

You Repent – Whatever you thought was right – stop it, go to scriptures and start over and imitate Jesus. Don’t do your version of Jesus. Imitate Him. This is true repentance.

You Preach – ¶ (v1) “I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: (v2) preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.” 2 Timothy 4:1

You don’t need to create a sermon, preach the Bible. For example:

Use The Gospel, John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (v17) “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

Matthew 11:28 “Come to Jesus, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and He will give you rest.
(v29) “Take His yoke upon you and learn from Him, for He is gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. (v30) For His yoke is easy and His burden is light.”

2. READ & STUDY: “Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee,”

LEARN: Jesus is setting the example for us, His disciples, present and future. The word used for WALKING is demonstrating His Authority. We must take notice, for by this He is teaching us to be His disciples and we must walk in His Steps (Chapters 10, 11 and 28 of Matthew, Jesus sends His disciples.)

4. READ & STUDY: “Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting”

LEARN: It is interesting how the church is turning to the ‘bespectacled academics’ and women away from God fearing, humbled, ‘manly men’ to lead the church. But, Jesus first two disciples were Peter (Rock) and Andrew (Manly). It is no coincidence.

The word “casting”, is a good description of how most people view their lives, in general. “To throw or let go of a thing without caring where it falls; to scatter, to throw, cast into; to give over to one’s care uncertain about the result.”

Jesus is calling all of His disciples, past, present and future, to a life that has purpose, meaning and eternal value.

You be a Man or Woman of God – Stand firm in who and what God has called you to and made you to be.

You Understand – Most people are just letting life slip by unintentionally and with no purpose.

Do it now! Start today.

5. READ & STUDY: “casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen”

LEARN: The word “net” describes the lives of the disciples before meeting Jesus as are most of our lives ‘bound up’ as in anything thrown around one to impede his motions, as chains, a garment, a net for fishing”. Freedom is where and why Jesus calls us to follow Him.

UNDERSTAND: net – #293 ἀμφίβληστρον amphiblestron am-fib’-lace-tron

The word used for ‘follow’ has a sense of urgent command. Come, now! Also, the connotation of this word implies that the pupil or disciple is to follow closely, looking over the shoulder of the teacher. The disciple is not only seen with his teacher, but he is closely identified with his teacher.

But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace. 14“Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet. 15“Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.
