THE FORESHADOWING
A “foreshadowing” is a warning, an indicator or a precursor of future events or persons. Synonyms are “signal”, “indicate”, “signify” “be a sign of”, “a harbinger”, “warn of” or “portend”.
There are many examples of “foreshadowing” in The Scriptures and they are most often related to Prophecy. Understanding the “foreshadowing” of a person or an event can give an opportunity to prepare for the event, to recognize a person’s role or activities in the event, to navigate or survive difficult circumstances of the event and to “overcome” or “endure to the end”.
For Example

Joshua was a “type” of Christ, a foreshadowing of the coming Christ.

Abraham’s test to sacrifice Isaac is a picture, a foreshadowing, of God sacrificing His Son, Jesus.

The rise of Antiochus Epiphanes, around 175 BC, was a foreshadowing of the future antichrist. (“…a despicable person will arise, on whom the honor of kingship has not been conferred, but he will come in a time of tranquility and seize the kingdom by intrigue. 22“The overflowing forces will be flooded away before him and shattered, and also the prince of the covenant.” Daniel11:21)
THE FORESHADOWING OF THE ANTICHRIST
IN PROPHECY
The foreshadowing of the coming “Son of Perdition” also known as “The man of lawlessness”, “The Beast” or the Antichrist is of particular interest and importance. We may not know the identity of this “End of Days” Antichrist until he takes power, but, we can know about him and prepare.
Daniel 11:21 “In his place a despicable person will arise, on whom the honor of kingship has not been conferred, but he will come in a time of tranquility and seize the kingdom by intrigue. 22 “The overflowing forces will be flooded away before him and shattered, and also the prince of the covenant.”
The reference in Daniel 11:21 is of Antiochus Epiphanes, one of the most brutal rulers known in history, easily eclipsing the horrors of Adolph Hitler and his Third Reich. But, the horrors of Antiochus Epiphanes will pale in comparison to the brutality and horror of the coming Antichrist.
