THE WINNOWING FORK AND THE THRESHING FLOOR

the winnowing fork and the threshing flo

Matthew, chapter five, outlines and describes

  • God’s great gift of Salvation, the process of sanctification,
  • the of separating the Wheat from the chaff, (God’s sheep from the goats) and
  • the reward of Believing upon the Name of Jesus and
  • the consequence of unbelief. This is the path every believer will walk.

Winnowing is an agricultural method developed by ancient cultures for separating grain from chaff. It is also used to remove hay and chaff or other pests from stored grain. Threshing, the loosening of grain or seeds from the husks and straw, is the step in the chaff-removal process that comes before winnowing.

Threshing is done by beating the sheaves against the wooden bars to separate the grains from the stalks. Winnowing is the process of removing the unwanted husk from the grains.

26 “But when the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the tares became evident also.

27 “The slaves of the landowner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’

28 “And he said to them, ‘An enemy has done this!’ The slaves *said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up?’

29 “But he *said, ‘No; for while you are gathering up the tares, you may uproot the wheat with them.

30 ‘Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather up the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn.”

Both a WARNING and a PROMISE.

Those who are not true believers, that is, those who are only ‘hearers of the Word’ but not ‘Doers of The Word’, are condemned to an “Unquenchable Fire”.

But, those who are True Believers, that is, those who are both Hearers and Doers of His Word will be gathered up into His Barn. This is His Promise to us… (next page)
