The Keys Of Asking, Seeking, Knocking

Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

9 “Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? 10 “Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

12“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Jesus is speaking in the “present, imperative”. This is not a request, it is a command and He is telling us, when making our requests, we are to ask, seek and knock with persistence. It is akin to begging; a calling for, a craving, and a desire that rises above the level of a need, it is a requirement.

Here are some examples from scriptures of effective Asking, Seeking and Knocking

ASK INTENTIONALLY

Luke 18:1 “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. 3And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’

4 “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’ ”

SEEK DELIBERATELY

Luke 15:8 “Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9“When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!’ 10“In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

KNOCK PERSISTENTLY

Luke 11:5 “Then He said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; 6 for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; 7 and from inside he answers and says, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been shut and my children and I are in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.’ 8 “I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

But, once again, the “Key of the Keys” is that you must, first, “treat people the same way you want them to treat you”. This is The Key which Opens the Door.

ACTION POINT

In order to have the request you have made, to see God move in the ‘natural’ you must,

  • Ask intentionally – know your purpose

  • Seek deliberately – don’t be distracted

  • Knock persistently,

  • Treat people the same way you want them to treat you

“How much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!”

John 14:12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. 13 “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.”
